How blinds can save you money

We all love a deal; we love to be thrifty. Switching energy providers, switching to non-branded versions of your favourite food, buying some new blinds – these are things that we all do to make the most out of our money. Well, not everyone does that last one. But here are some reasons why they should…

Cost effectiveness

When it comes to covering your windows, there are a few options: blinds, curtains, or a homemade papermaché mix. Of those three, the most-effective (sane) option are the blinds. We love curtains, don’t get us wrong. But they’re a luxury, they’re for when you want to treat yourself and your home. If you’re looking for a more cost-effective option, blinds are the only way to go.

Insulation

Bear with me here, your bare windows will be bare cold if you don’t wrap them up in something. You wouldn’t go outside naked as a bear, so how could you bear your windows having to? 20% of your house’s heat is lost through windows and doors. But much like a bear’s preferred place of relief, the solution is obvious: put up some blinds and your home will be cosy enough for you to hibernate for the winter. OK, that’s enough of the ursine puns, I don’t want to bore you so let’s bear on and bear up.

Reduce your energy bills

By putting any covering over your windows you’re going to gain a benefit in terms of heat regulation and insulation. But if you really want to make the most out of the insulating qualities of your blinds, then you will want to spring for some thermal lining. This magic material traps the heat in your home, meaning that you won’t have to keep your radiators running as much and you’ll only need to put your fire on for ambience.

Increase value of your home

In the 2nd century BC, Titus Maccius Plautus said “You must spend money to make money”. A couple of millenia on, that statement remains largely true – being able to invest means that you have a greater chance of reaping rewards. This is definitely true in the case of shutters. More expensive than blinds, shutters have a timeless quality, one which also increases the value of your home. The initial upfront cost is higher than with other window furnishings, but over the longer term you’ll end up with a return on your investment.

These are just a few ways you can use your window furnishings to save money over the upcoming months, so why not take a look at our full range and find one that’s perfect for you.
