Tue 17 Mar 2015 Amy @ Roller Blinds Direct

Here at Roller Blinds Direct we like to keep our finger on the pulse when it comes to interior design, and today we’re delighted to share with you the top ten trends for the season…

1. 50 shades of grey

Neutral, elegant, and ever versatile, the combination of varying shades of grey is a trend that’s hit the world of home decorating with a bang. Grey is ideal for layering tone upon tone, creating depth without appearing busy. The lightest shades are perfect for achieving an open, airy space, whilst shades with brown undertones are good for warming things up. As this room arrangement demonstrates, grey needn’t be limited to the walls of a room; furniture, soft furnishings and artwork can also be combined to create a crisp yet cosy space.

2. Mirror mirror

We’re big fans of the grouped mirror effect, which sees multiple frames of differing shapes and sizes combined to create an eye-catching display. This collection of vintage-inspired mirrors creates light and depth, as well as making for an attractive bathroom feature. Placed on the wall perpendicular to the window, natural sunlight bounces throughout the room and makes for a much brighter, fresh-feeling space.

3. Artisan crafts

We’re excited to see the rejuvenation of craftmanship and handmade items in interior design, creating a sense of uniqueness and provenance in the home. This is demonstrated perfectly in this glorious room set-up; the striking rug boasts a cool geometric pattern and quirky details, demonstrating the aesthetic qualities of a craft that is also highly functional, while the wall is adorned with distinctive woven bowls, arranged to maximise on their vibrant colours and symmetry.

4. Scandi-fusion

Scandinavian design typically focuses on clear spaces and light colours to combat the darkness of Nordic climes. This spring, expect a Scandi comeback with a twist; though pale hues and natural materials will still play a big role, vintage accessories, thick textures and quirky prints will accompany the style, making for a fabulously homely Scandi-fusion effect. A limited palette still works best, but don’t be afraid to introduce bolder shades into the space, heating up an otherwise cold scheme.

5. Springtime flowers

Flowers are a firm favourite throughout the industry, owed to their ability to delicately introduce nature into the home, along with the sheer variety of designs available (just take a look at the Floral Vocabulary our friends at Roman Blinds Direct put together). This season, flowers needn’t be limited to a statement wall or a pair of curtains – now, floral patterns should adorn furniture, surfaces, and even carpets. We’re particularly fond of this lovely arrangement, featuring a combination of faux blooms upon sleek floating shelves. This room is certainly bursting into full bloom!

6. Geometry

Clean, strong lines and confident colour combinations, underpinned by a nostalgic, retro vibe: geometry is back with a vengeance! Many pieces of furniture are naturally geometric, so if you wish to ease your home into the theme gradually, why not highlight the lines and angles with a pop of colour? The side table in the room arrangement above is a prime example of this subtle geometry. We also adore the classic monochrome tiled floor, and the stunning lowered lampshades above the dining table.

7. Statement furniture

Statement furniture is a great way to update a space without redecorating. One piece can totally transform a room, creating a stylish feature while functioning as a chair, table, or storage solution. No matter your style, a statement piece can be tailored to your exact requirements, whether you’re looking for a vintage-inspired unit, modern modular settee or striking tub chair as above.

8. Marsala

The Pantone colour of the year, Marsala is going to be big throughout the entirety of 2015. The rich, earthy shade is the perfect accompaniment to a variety of other colours, from neutral greys and beige to deep navy and black. If you’re looking to inject a little Marsala sophistication into your home, you need not paint every wall or invest in a brand new sofa – instead, look for soft furnishings in berry shades, ornaments with wine coloured features and artwork that boasts deep red details.

9. More monochrome

A timeless trend that tops the list every year, black and white here to stay. The above interior arrangement caught our eye because it demonstrates the true versatility of monochrome. Many wrongly assume that black-and-white pairings only work in modern, minimalistic spaces, but as this charming bathroom set-up demonstrates, it’s a highly effective colour scheme for traditional and vintage tastes, too.

10. Roller blinds

Finally, we’re expecting big things from roller blinds this spring. As this stunning living room demonstrates, rollers are a subtle, neutral and, most importantly, functional window dressing that allow the perfect amount of light and air into a room. With a huge variety available, a roller blind can be easily selected to tie in with the rest of the scheme.
