The second in our series of Fashion Focus posts, we’re taking a look at one of the most elaborate and classical patterns to grace the world of design: Baroque. Today, the style is used in interior design to inject a traditional opulence into otherwise modern and simple spaces. By simply hanging a pair of Baroque curtains, choosing elaborately patterned cushions or creating a rococo-inspired feature wall, a room can be transformed into a place that boasts drama, style and luxury.

In history, Baroque is referred to as a period of exaggerated, dramatic and exuberant artistic style. From paintings and architecture to dance and music, Baroque reigned supreme in the art scene circa 1600. Initiating in Rome, Italy, it spread to the majority of Europe in no time, helped by both the Catholic Church and the aristocracy, who were delighted by its religious themes and grandeur, respectively.

In the mid to the late 1600s Baroque furnishings made their first appearance. The wealthy residences in Venice, Rome and Florence wish to display their affluence and culture to visitors, and elaborate patterning upon expensive material was just the ticket.

Now, Baroque is widely in interior design, and thanks to the inexpensive dupes that retailers supply, everyone can afford to transform their home into a place that exudes opulence. Here at Roller Blinds Direct, we’re pleased to offer a range of Baroque-inspired window dressings, all of which will help to channel 17th-century grandeur into any room.

The Railux Windsor roller is a great substitution for traditional Baroque prints. It’s delicate yet bold swirls have just as much of an impact as the classic emblems, however its floral scheme causes it to be a little less overpowering. Available in burgundy and teal, this roller will fit seamlessly into any space that requires a bright and attractive window dressing.

3. Decorshade Rita Roller Blind

The pretty pastel Decorshade Rita roller is ideal for those who want to incorporate the Baroque style in a more subtle, sophisticated manner. Its patterning is similar to that of the Railux Windsor, yet the similarly-toned colours make for a more delicate window dressing, With choices of pale green and beige, it’s a neutral roller blind well suited to bathrooms and bedrooms.
